AHN Downtown to Open Walk-In Express Care
By Layla Joseph
Aug. 27 marked the fifth anniversary of Highmark Health and Allegheny Health Network’s (AHN) comprehensive medical center in the Golden Triangle.
AHN Downtown is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at 501 Penn Ave. in Highmark’s Penn Avenue Place. The medical center conveniently offers primary care services to those who live and work Downtown.
Starting this November, walk-in express care will be offered on weekdays until 4:00 p.m. for non-urgent health issues, such as coughs/colds, sore throats, rashes, and other ailments.
Since the opening of AHN Downtown in 2018, healthcare has never been more accessible to Downtowners.
Among the extensive services provided at AHN Downtown’s 16 patient exam rooms are primary care, including preventive exams and acute care for common illnesses, chronic disease management, diagnostic X-rays, immunizations and more. The clinic offers PCR testing for COVID, flu, RSV and strep, providing patients with test results in less than one hour.
AHN Downtown supports the AHN Executive Health and Wellness Program, which is based at the AHN Wexford Health and Wellness Pavilion, providing area business leaders with fast-track access to primary care services.
According to the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP), growing percentages of people are returning to Downtown offices since the pandemic. Since April 2020, the 11% of people working Downtown has increased to 63% in July of 2023 and the quarterly snapshot reported a 90.6% residential occupancy rate in Downtown. Nearly 37,000 employees now work Downtown Monday through Friday.
Dr. Amy Crawford-Faucher is a family medicine physician and serves as Vice Chair of the AHN Primary Care Institute and Department of Family Medicine.
“We are so pleased to have had the opportunity over the last five years to provide convenient, high-quality care to those who live and work downtown,” she said. “With the addition of walk-in express care to our primary care service, you won’t have to put off or delay care because you’re trying to maneuver around your busy schedule.”
Part of Highmark Health, AHN was formed in 2013 and is an integrated healthcare delivery system serving greater western Pennsylvania. The network has over 250 care locations, 14 hospitals and more than 21,000 employees.
AHN Downtown is staffed by primary care physicians and certified registered nurse practitioners, who work with an extended care team that includes registered nurses, a social worker, behavioral health consultant, clinical pharmacist, a registered dietitian and health coaches.
“Our team of physicians and advanced practice providers are well trained in the full scope of comprehensive primary care,” Crawford-Faucher said. “Supported by an outstanding staff, their thorough training and expertise leads to excellent clinical outcomes for our patients.”
According to Crawford-Faucher, even the healthiest of adults should touch base with their primary care physician at least once a year, but those with chronic or ongoing issues should seek care more frequently.
“Whether you are looking for a new primary care home or an express care option, AHN is excited to partner with you to help keep you healthy,” she said.
