Boredom Set Coffee cooks up fun inside Market Street Grocery

Written by Briana Bindus

Market Street Grocery [MSG] has been operating as a grocery store since the 1930s, according to Quade Miller-Edwards, the owner of Boredom Set Coffee inside MSG. The shop has something for everyone, whether you’re looking to pick up some groceries, get a bite at the deli, go to the Aperitivo wine bar or stop off at Boredom in Market Square.

Miller-Edwards and co-partner Jett Wasson, the creators of Boredom Set, have been roasting specialty coffee since they were both teenagers. Boredom in Market Square is their first independent coffee shop.

“The whole mission of Boredom is figuring out how to create in spite of boredom, right?” Miller-Edwards said. “How do we find ways to continue to progress in an artistic manner that actually benefit and feed our souls? For me and my business partner, it was coffee.”

Since 2022, Miller-Edwards and Wasson have been conquering “boredom through coffee.”

“By serving customers and serving people who are there to get my coffee, I can inspire them to break their own habitual and perpetual boredom,” Miller-Edwards said.

For the past month, Boredom Set has been bringing creativity to MSG. Miller-Edwards believes that everywhere, from a barber shop to a tattoo shop, can “thrive with an espresso machine in it.” His theory has been proven with the crowd at MSG, which he described as “perfect.”

“We have the best coffee clientele,” Miller-Edwards said. “It’s just been awesome to see a community that wants to drink straight espresso, wants to drink pour-overs, loves drip coffee, and on top of it, we’re still able to throw in a ton of our artistic flair.”

With drinks from ube matcha lattes that “tastes just like sugar cookies,” to brown sugar malted shakerados, the Set is bringing high-scale drinks from professional baristas to the Pittsburgh community. Regardless of what kind of drinks you like, Miller-Edwards highlighted that the cafe has something for everyone’s palette.

“No matter what, no matter who you are, no matter what your knowledge of coffee is or isn’t, when you walk through that door, we will help you find a drink that you will love,” Miller-Edwards said. “It is all about love from behind that bar.”
