Celebrating The Fourth of July in Downtown Pittsburgh

By Olivia Miller

This Fourth of July, venture to the Golden Triangle with your family and friends for Downtown’s historically iconic Independence Day celebration.

The festivities start at 1pm with a flag raising ceremony at the Fort Pitt Museum. After that, there will be family-friendly activities like a cannon firing demonstration and patriotic music through the late afternoon.

At 4pm, the night kicks off with musical performances featuring local and nationally acclaimed talent performing at Point State Park, the North Shore Great Lawn, and on Liberty Avenue. There will also be other activities like a C-17 flyover, food trucks, and hot air balloon rides as well as fun for the kids like face painting and a caricature artist.

The night all leads up to a glittering 25-minute fireworks show featuring bright, colorful fireworks timed with music. If you can’t make it to Point State Park to watch the show, you can tune in to WPXI on TV or KDKA 100.1 for the soundtrack to the fireworks show.

If you’re looking for a more intimate setting to watch the fireworks, Carnegie Science Center has opened up their facility. Tickets are still available for the event and range from $70-150 depending on the amenities purchased with the tickets. Each ticket guarantees a viewing spot for the fireworks show, parking, and admission to the museum as well as the Rangos Science Cinema and Buhl Planetarium for the day. To buy tickets, visit here.
