Festivities begin early this year with the opening of the Peoples Gas Holiday Market on November 22. Inspired by traditional European markets, this Holiday Market offers an array of unique gifts, local crafts, seasonal treats, and warm drinks like gluhwein and craft beer. For those who make a donation, there’s even a special limited edition souvenir ornament, making this market a perfect prelude to Light Up Night.

On November 23, the City of Pittsburgh Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at 5 p.m. at the City-County Building, accompanied by a spectacular Zambelli Rooftop Fireworks display. This cherished tradition lights up Downtown Pittsburgh and signals the official start of the holiday festivities.

Families can look forward to a holiday-themed selfie garden in the Heinz Hall courtyard, featuring beloved characters from Fred Rogers Productions–a perfect spot for capturing holiday memories. There will also be a holiday-themed kid’s play area, ensuring that all ages have activities to enjoy throughout the evening.

For adults looking to celebrate, the “Five at Five” party on the Roberto Clemente Bridge offers $5 beverages, bites, and an atmosphere perfect for mingling and taking in the city views. As night falls, the excitement will crescendo with a live performance by the multi-platinum band The Fray, bringing beloved hits to the crowd for an unforgettable experience.
