Over a decade of Sports, Food and Community at Redbeard's Bar & Grill
Written by Lourdes Rodriguez
Are you a sports fanatic? Do you keep up with the beloved Pittsburgh sports teams such as The Pirates, Penguins & The Steelers? If yes, then you’ve probably been to Redbeard’s Bar & Grill. The restaurant consists of American cuisine, outdoor dining, and happy hour. The sports bar haven is plastered with imagery of infamous Pittsburgh players and jerseys on the walls.
In May, Redbeards will be celebrating their 11th year anniversary at the downtown location along with their 30th year at the original location in Mt. Washington. Customers can take part in the celebration by ordering from the special menu consisting of old time favorites.
With the Roberto Clemente bridge being reopened, Len Semplice, owner of Redbeard’s Bar & Grill, is eager to see an increase in customers. “We have been looking forward to it, we lost all the foot traffic from sporting events. Business people from the North shore used to walk over for lunch. We are excited to gain back foot traffic from the bridge.”
Semplice is optimistic about the future of Downtown Pittsburgh, he loves the vibrancy and has seen a huge improvement in the last year, especially in safety. “I think the media blows things out of proportion regarding crime in downtown. It hurts businesses when they tell a story with inaccurate information.”
Semplice has a few suggestions to improve downtown: “We need more retail stores. Downtown. We have sports stadiums and restaurants. A shopping district is the missing piece.”
