Renee DeMichiei Farrow: Entrepreneur, Author, Mentor & Inspiration

By Olivia Miller

Happy International Women’s Day! Today we celebrate and honor female excellence of the past, present, and future. One Pittsburgh female entrepreneur has not only made a name for herself by starting her window treatment company, Decorating Details, but also makes it a priority to give back to the community and help others succeed.

Renee DeMichiei Farrow was first introduced to the window treatment industry in the mid 1980s when she worked at a drapery shop. Over the next decade of working there, she learned the ins-and-outs of interior design and sales before starting Decorating Details in 1993. The business grew and quickly expanded into 6 states while working on projects for high-end assisted living facilities as well as residential homes and local hospitals.

Farrow took a break from the business to focus on other ventures such as working for local newspapers and architectural firms. During this time, she became an award winning author and won several awards for her advocacy surrounding women and minorities. More recently, she started Results With Renee, her coaching and mentorship program.

In 2020, she relaunched Decorating Details while planning her retirement from her full time job. As the pandemic loomed, she hosted customers over Zoom and offered contactless installation and sample consultations. Even now, customer health is a top concern of hers and she still offers to wear booties, gloves, and a mask during consultations.

A premier partner with Graber blinds, Decorating Details offers a variety of premier blinds, draperies, shades, shutters, and even custom roller shades printed with customers’ unique images. The amount of materials, patterns, and colors may seem overwhelming but she offers free in-home consultations and boasts a “shop from home” process. Their most popular product is their cordless roller blinds, which Farrow is proud to offer to customers because they promote “safety for children and your pets.”

Her ultimate goal with her modern window treatments is to “make people walk into their homes and make them feel like they’re on vacation” while solving any concerns about privacy, light filtration, and energy efficiency. She emphasizes the importance that customers “love what they have and enjoy their space” especially after the pandemic.

From now until April 1st, Decorating Details is offering a special deal to get homeowners ready to let that spring Pittsburgh sunshine into their homes. Customers will receive a $100 rebate on any three roller, cellular, and solar shades with an additional $25 rebate on up to twelve shades.

To take advantage of this great deal and Renee’s stellar selection, visit their website at decorating-details.com or call Renee at (412)-453- 7306. To see examples of their transformational work, follow them on Facebook and LinkedIn at Decorating Details Pittsburgh.

For up-and-coming young female aspiring entrepreneurs, Farrow simply recommends focusing on building sustainable relationships. She emphasizes “network, network, network” and to not be afraid to “ask for what you want.” Her lifelong mantra has been, “I’m not out there to sell a job but to form a relationship. If a relationship is there, the work will follow.”
