Sienna Mercato: Classic Italian with a Pittsburgh Twist

Written by Allison Frazer

Three restaurants, three different menus, all with the same Italian feel. Sienna Mercato at 942 Penn Ave. is a three-story restaurant with a cohesive feel that offers three individual dining experiences.

Emporio, the building’s first floor, is a casual and relaxed atmosphere that is extremely welcoming to families or large groups looking for a quick yet filling meal. The star of this floor is easy to pick out, as almost every dish is based off of it - the meatball. While many wouldn’t consider a meatball a versatile dish, owner Susan Certo says otherwise. Certo sees meatballs as “incredibly customizable,” as customers can mix and match their own creations each meal. A fan favorite is the “Ball of the Month,” offering a new taste each visit.

Mezzo, the second floor, offers a more intimate feel, perfect for a romantic date night. Newly renovated, Mezzo has a lounge area with small bites and a cocktail bar as well as dining tables next to large windows that overlook Penn Ave. With its own separate kitchen from Emporio, Mezzo offers delicious pizzas courtesy of the wood burning pizza oven. The renovation of Mezzo includes the introduction of a new head chef who is looking to revamp the menu and offer Pittsburgh new flavors.

Il Tetto, the third and final floor, is a rooftop bar with a retractable roof affording an incredible experience to those 21 and older. Connect with the historical Pittsburgh architecture while enjoying a drink with friends and see Pittsburgh like you never have before.

While each floor has its own distinct perks, the feel of Sienna Mercato runs through and connects each floor. The farmhouse chic vibes provided by the exposed brick and beams creates an unforgettable experience no matter which floor you choose to attend.

Whether you are looking for a restaurant for your family, a cozy date night location, or a one-of-a-kind rooftop experience, Sienna Mercato offers it all.
