Rooted in Pittsburgh: Susie Shipley's Leadership in Huntington Bank's Hometown Expansion

With roots firmly planted in the Pittsburgh community, Susie Shipley is leading Huntington Bank's investment and expansion in her hometown region. The native of the city's Robinson area was exposed to the world of business and banking as a young adult through groups like the McKees Rocks Rotary Club. "A Rotary scholarship put me on the path to the University of Pittsburgh's Katz Graduate School of Business," Shipley says.

"I was recruited by PNC Bank straight out of Katz," she recounts. "It was an incredible 14-year career there with opportunities across cash management, treasury, capital markets, and international banking." In 2011, a new opportunity arose to lead Huntington's Pittsburgh region. "This is my home. Huntington is deeply connected to the community, and I wanted to make a meaningful impact right here."

For Huntington, a bank with a 158-year history founded in 1866, investing in markets like Pittsburgh is a key strategy underpinned by financial strength. "We've opened seven new branches here since 2020," Shipley says, "And this fall, we'll unveil a new location in the heart of Market Square downtown."

This growth comes from a storied legacy of prudence balanced against consistently listening to what customers and communities need to thrive. "Huntington's purpose is tied into our culture - we exist to look out for people and help make their dreams become reality, whether personal or business ambitions."

Shipley is optimistic about Pittsburgh's trajectory: "Vibrant downtowns are the core of any region. Our own downtown offers incredible assets - a Riverwalk, arts, culture, sports, and history." She concedes the challenges all cities face, "Our downtown core is in flux. But our way forward lies in that uniquely Pittsburgh tradition of public-private partnership and shared civic commitment."

The Market Square branch solidifies Huntington's dedication. "It's the gateway to downtown," Shipley explains. "We have an incredible opportunity to plant our flag while serving that entire neighborhood."

Under Shipley's leadership, Huntington Bank is reaffirming its investment in Pittsburgh, guided by a unifying mission to help local communities and businesses thrive.
