Heinz Endowments Contributes $750,000 to Redevelop Former PACT Building into Affordable Housing
The Heinz Endowments is injecting $750,000 to bridge a funding gap for the redevelopment of the former PACT building at 120 Cecil Way in downtown Pittsburgh, transforming it into affordable housing. The Pittsburgh Scholar House, in collaboration with main developer Beacon Communities, has announced the new funding, adding to the $2.5 million already secured in August. This previous funding included $1.5 million from the Henry L. Hillman Foundation and $1 million from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, bringing the total to over $3 million needed for the project.
Action Housing Project Buys the John P. Robin Civic Building
An empty building that predates World War l will be transformed into affordable housing and office space with the help of ACTION-Housing, a non-profit organization.
This month, the John P. Robin Civic Building at 200 Ross St. sold for $4 million to ACTION-Housing. The organization plans to convert 104,920 sq. ft. into 68 affordable housing units ranging from three bedroom to one bedroom apartments. These units are intended for people making 50% to 80% of the area median income.
Transforming Downtown: New Affordable Housing Projects Approved
Exciting news for Downtown Pittsburgh! 93 affordable apartments will be coming into the Golden Triangle. The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has approved an additional $750,000 from the Rental Gap Program in an effort to aid the conversion of unused office spaces into 93 units of affordable one bedroom apartments for senior citizens.
