Take a Swing at Five Iron Golf

By Layla Joseph

Whether you are almost a professional or just playing for fun, Five Iron Golf located in PPG Place invites you to take a swing at one of their 11 high-tech golf simulators.

This open space with a vibrant atmosphere is the opposite of a dog track. You can forget the sunscreen and enjoy your match play in the air conditioning.

Five Iron Golf opens early and closes late, allowing you to squeeze in some swings into your busy schedule. Whether you want to start the day with a great workout or unwind after the workday, with over 100 virtual courses to choose from, it's a hands-on way to blow off steam.

The center opens as early as 6 a.m. Monday-Friday and closes at 11 p.m. Weekend hours differ slightly, with the doors opening at 8 a.m. and the lights staying on until 1 a.m.

With a full-service bar, in-house catering and variety of other gaming opportunities, it is a great place to get out and socialize.

The company was founded in NYC and opened their first range in 2017. Now, Five Iron Golf has two international locations and can be found in major cities across the country.

Since the Downtown location opened in 2021, Pittsburgh residents and visitors have a place to practice their solo game or challenge friends and colleagues around a virtual course. Unlike a regular golf course, here you can see your strength in every swing with a golf ball you don’t have to search for.

Finding the ball's sweet spot has never been easier, with the option to have golf professionals by your side to perfect your swing.

Dustin Patrizi and Jason Bodey are Pittsburgh’s professional trainers, with years of experience teaching PGA pros, they are now ready to transform you into a PGH pro.

In addition to lessons and simulator rentals, they also offer space for private events, club fittings, leagues and professional clubs to use if you don’t want to bring your own.

With a full kitchen that opens at noon and a happy hour from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. you can enjoy an afternoon of eighteen holes while also indulging in Pittsburgh Salads, a variety of filling apps, pizza or choose from a selection of sandwiches with fresh-cut fries.

On the main floor there are table games to keep you occupied while waiting for food or grabbing a drink but if you head upstairs you will be welcomed with additional seating, skeeball, shuffleboard, arcade games and a bar cart.

Book a simulator dock online, become a member to get access to discounts and exclusive perks, join a league, register for a lesson or grab a bite to eat – hitting the green has never been more convenient.
