Running a nonprofit is sometimes like putting together a puzzle. You know the picture you want to create and have the tools to do it, but connecting the pieces can be a challenge. Lindsey Cupps is DNA’s Business Development Coordinator, and since January 2022, she has been helping our organization see the big picture.

For lunch this week, the DNA staff decided to go to Grant Street Tavern, a quaint hidden gem in The Grant Building. The establishment has all the great makings of a charming neighborhood pub: an expansive polished oak bar, friendly staff who address you by your name and an Irish touch that is ever present in their twinkling green lights, hanging Irish flags and bagpipe decorations. 

According to the National Society for Environmental Information, Pittsburgh is one of the cloudiest cities in the nation. Among the gloomy haze, the cheery yellow facade of Arepittas has been brightening up Cherry Way and the Downtown Pittsburgh food scene since 2019 with their traditional Venezuelan street food offerings. 

The biggest controversy surrounding comic books now seems to be the rivalry between DC and Marvel fans, but there was a point in time where your favorite superheroes were depicted as villains. If you still appreciate a tangible copy of your favorite graphic novel, Bill and Walt’s Hobby Shop, a quaint shop on 101 Smithfield St. can satisfy your need for a good read on National Comic Book Day.

Friday, between 5:30 and 10 p.m., the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust will host its Gallery Crawl with 16 gallery and event spaces for free public viewings of various art forms. 

DNA’s Best Restaurant event, which will take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center allows you to taste dishes from far away nations without leaving Pittsburgh.

Fifth Avenue Place has transformed in recent years. The headquarters of Highmark Health, located at 120 Fifth Ave., now features enhanced retail storefronts and modernized, high-tech workspaces. To round out the upgrades of one of Downtown’s most iconic buildings, FifthAvenue Place is searching for tenants to fill retail space on the first floor of the 31-story, high-rise mixed-use building.

The Allegheny Regional Asset District (RAD) has once again planned a slew of fun (and free) events throughout Allegheny County from September 8th to October 17th. The initiative utilizes half of the county’s revenues from the extra 1% sales and use tax to allow residents to freely enjoy the region’s numerous assets.

S&S Productions has teamed up with Aslin Beer Company to present a fabulous and entertaining afternoon on Sept. 24 in the Strip District. Pittsburghers over the age of 21 can travel to the Terminal and experience drag entertainment and brews for brunch.

Those familiar with the Downtown Pittsburgh restaurant scene know that Las Velas is legit. What better way to end the workday than with a margarita in one hand, a taco in the other while enjoying the company of those you care about alongside eagle eye views of Market Square?

This week our editors journeyed to Sally Ann's, a restaurant that is part of the Sixth Street Restaurant Row. As one of four Richard DeShantz Restaurant Group establishments on Sixth Street (the others are Taco, Butcher and the Rye and gi-jin, along with Meat and Potatoes just around the corner) we were excited to patronize Sally Ann's.

The Mayor’s Office, in partnership with the DNA, PDP, The Cultural Trust, Visit Pittsburgh, PUMP, and The Greater Pittsburgh Arts Project will be holding the first Mayor’s Happy Hour from 5:30-7:30 pm. October 10th at Gaucho, located at 146 Sixth Street! This is the first in a series of monthly happy hours Mayor Ed Gainey and his office will be organizing with us and our partners.

OnPar Now was founded in 2021, making its home in the newly renovated Terminal in the heart of the Strip District, and has since been inviting Pittsburghers to practice their game with validating parking for easy access.
