As a child, birthdays are something to look forward to. A once-a-year celebration where you are the star of the show, a day of being showered in smiles, gifts and love from family and friends.

Unfortunately, that is not every child’s experience, and before Megs Yunn met Beverly, a child without a birthday was not something Yunn ever thought about before.

There is something special about walking into a restaurant that serves a traditional cuisine. The signs are obvious upon entering Amazing Dumplings in Squirrel Hill. Designer Brett Rutherford and the owner Ping collaborated to create the aesthetic transporting you to Xi’an, Ping’s hometown.

“Space is a unifier,” said Dale Vaughn, the owner behind Space Bar in Market Square. The unique experience that could only be described as “out of this world” is here in Downtown Pittsburgh.

Old roots tie Michael Troiani to the region. In 1913, his grandfather arrived in the city, moving into a house on Crawford Street in the Hill District. Michael’s father, Julius, was the youngest boy of twelve children. They would walk to the markets in the Strip District, buy produce and sell it around the city. The family history gives Michael plenty of reason to stay in the area and help activate spaces in the city.

Just before the end of the year, grants were awarded to arts and culture organizations in the Pittsburgh region.
