Written by Molly Green

Located at the heart of Pittsburgh’s Cultural District Downtown, Arcade Comedy Theater is “Pittsburgh’s home for all things comedy.” Established at 943 Liberty Ave, the theater features stand-up, improv, sketch, and theatrical productions. With nearly 4,000 followers on Instagram, over 7,000 on Facebook, and 100s of five-star reviews, Arcade Comedy is a Pittsburgh entertainment favorite.

Founded in 2013, the 501c3 arts organization creates a community by connecting artists and audiences through comedy. With dynamic performances and educational offerings, Arcade Comedy engages Pittsburgh and offers a safe space for all comedy lovers. Their five core values include inclusivity and safety, affordability, variety, experimentation, and collaboration.

This month, Arcade has amplified women in comedy with a series of exciting events including Women Talking and B!tch Please. This week, they will be hosting Five Minutes or Bust, a comedy endurance test event, on March 27 at 9:00 PM. As well, there will be an all-ages Gallery Crawl of free improv comedy shows every half hour on March 28 from 6-10 PM. Also gracing the Arcade Comedy stage this March are improv and comedy acts The Butch and the Bi, Well Known Strangers, and Knights of the Arcade. Check out the Arcade calendar for a full catalog of upcoming events.

On top of performances, Arcade Comedy is home to Arcade Academy, a curriculum for students at any stage of their comedy journeys. You can choose from improv, stand-up, and sketch writing tracks. In addition, the Academy periodically offers elective courses including Musical Improv, Comedic Acting, Coaching Improv, and online classes like Intro to TV Writing. As well, Arcade holds a variety of workshops, taught by nationally-known improvisers and instructors. More information on current class and workshop opportunities, details, pricing, and more is available on the Arcade Academy web page.

Finally, Arcade Comedy presents spectacular private parties, comedy shows, corporate team building workshops, and a unique professional development opportunity titled Improv for Professionals. In addition, you may also rent the space for meetings, performances, and more.

To support Arcade Comedy, you can get involved in their abundant educational and creative offerings, attend a performance, or donate directly to this outstanding nonprofit arts organization.
