Best Dish We Ate This Week: Apollo Cafe

By Olivia Miller

This week, the DNA editorial staff braved the scattered showers for a classic, simple lunch at The Apollo Cafe. We ordered a hot ham and cheese sandwich, a bowl of gazpacho, and a chicken salad sandwich. Each item was prepared right in front of us using clean, fresh ingredients. Speedy service is a specialty at The Apollo Cafe, and judging by not only our experience but also the line of patrons out the door, their food is as well.

The ham and cheese sandwich was perfectly toasted and piled high with fresh ham and melty cheese making it the perfect option for a hearty lunch. The gazpacho was tangy and chilled, a much needed dish for these humid July days. The chicken salad sandwich was flavorful and creamy, with an unexpected sweetness and crunch from its almonds.

The Apollo Cafe is located on 429 Forbes Avenue and is open Monday through Friday from 7am to 3pm. It is cash only so make sure to stop by an ATM before visiting.
