De Fer Coffee & Tea is a family and employee-owned and operated coffee company, founded in 2017 by Matt and Vanessa Marietti. In January, with support from PDP’s Downtown Rent Abatement Program, De Fer opened a location in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, at 725 Penn Avenue. This new Downtown hotspot is open 7:30am-2:30pm Monday through Friday and 8am-3pm Saturday and Sunday. De Fer Coffee & Tea also has locations at the flagship store in the Strip District, Troy Hill, the CMU library, and The Riviera.

They roast all their coffee in-house. Their mission is to bring amazing coffee and tea to the community and make the world a better place while doing it. To empower people involved in global coffee production, De Fer follows a responsibly sourced and ethically managed supply chain. Additionally, De Fer believes that cafes should enrich communities by creating a welcoming, inclusive environment and facilitating abundant connections and opportunities.

De Fer offers a diverse bite and beverage menu. The seasonally rotating food menu features cookies, muffins, sandwiches, and other delightful lunch and baked goods. In addition to coffee and tea, De Fer offers drink options such as cocktails (including non-alcoholic), wine, beer, smoothies, and more. Check out their sample menu for more details!

You can purchase seasonal and specialty coffee grounds and tea blends in store and on the shop webpage. Here, you can choose between light, medium, and dark roasts as well as select size and ground type. Spring seasonal staple Flower Show has notes of blackberry, peach, and rose. As part of De Fer’s Woman-Owned Series, Luha and Issel Medina sisters offer a coffee blend from Honduras featuring notes of chocolate, orange, and walnut. Other blends include Chami, Light Up Night, Ceiba, Popayan Decaf, and more.

Furthermore, you can explore coffee subscriptions to secure fresh roasted coffee to your door each month. Subscribers save on average between 7% and 30% versus a single bag of coffee. You can also shop for local food and drink products, De Fer custom apparel, fashionable accessories, sophisticated coffee appliances, and other goods like candles and gift cards.

De Fer partners with Pittsburgh businesses including Oakmont Bakery, Anchor & Anvil Coffee Bar, Oak Hill Post, Georgie’s Corner Cafe & Bakery, Bean & Barrel, and more. De Fer invites you to email wholesale@defer.coffee for wholesale and cafe consulting inquiries.
