DNA Panel Discussion Series on Downtown Development
Written by Christine Julia Dingzon
The Downtown Neighbors Alliance (DNA) continues its panel discussion series on downtown development, retail, and the vibrant local food scene. The purpose of this initiative is to create a stimulating and engaging forum for residents and aims to bring together experts, business owners, and the community to explore key aspects of urban growth.
A Vision for Community Engagement
DNA’s motivation for organizing this series comes from a desire to provide accessible and informative events for residents. “While restaurants and happy hours are a popular gathering spot, we want to create a free event for anyone to attend,” said John Valentine, Executive Director of Downtown Neighbors Alliance. By making these panels free to attend, DNA ensures that everyone has the chance to participate in shaping the community.
Topics and Format
The series will feature four-panel discussions throughout the year, beginning in May, with events scheduled every other month. Each panel will focus on different aspects of downtown development, including:
Commercial Retail
Food and Restaurant Scene
Development
Each discussion will conclude with a 20-25 minute Q&A session. “We want to hear from residents. We feel that’s important, the residents we represent,” Valentine said.
Expert Panelists
While panelists are still being finalized, DNA is reaching out to top chefs, commercial retail experts, and prominent developers to participate.
Expected Takeaways
The goal of the panel is to foster a deep understanding of downtown development and its impact on the community. As Valentine describes it, participants will gain “behind-the-scenes” insight into topics that affect their daily lives, from new retail spaces to emerging restaurant concepts. DNA hopes these discussions will empower residents by giving them a voice in shaping the future of their neighborhood.
Aligning with DNA’s Broader mission
This panel discussion reflects DNA’s commitment to community engagement. “We bring people together. It’s all about building community—neighbors can gather,” Valentine said. “We want to make sure there are enough activities throughout the year. We will be working with the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership to ensure an increase in activities.”
Event Details and Participation
The first panel is set to take place in May, with details on the venue to be announced soon. Stay tuned for more information on this upcoming event. All events will be free of charge and require registration.
