A Spotlight on Trouble in Mind
Kicking off the month, Pittsburgh Public Theater brings Alice Childress’s acclaimed play, Trouble in Mind to the O’Reilly Theater on Penn Avenue, from February 5th to the 23rd, 2025. This play was originally written in the 1950s and will now be performed in Pittsburgh for the first time. The story follows Wiletta Mayer, a talented Black actress navigating the challenges of racial dynamics in the theater world.
Although Trouble in Mind was ahead of its time when it was written, its themes remain strikingly relevant today. Directed by Justin Emeka, the Pittsburgh production boasts a stellar cast, including Shinnerrie D. Jackson as Wiletta Mayer and Vandour Stripling Ⅱ as John Nevins, With its sharp humor and thought-provoking commentary, this production is a theatrical highlight of the season. Divine 9 Night: A Pre-Show Celebration
If you’re part of the Divine Nine community–or simply love a good mixer, you wouldn’t want to miss Divine 9 Night on February 6, 2025. The Pittsburgh Public Theater invites members of Black fraternities and sororities for a free pre-show event in the Helen Wayne Rauh Rehearsal Hall before the performance of Trouble in Mind.
