RedBeard’s on Sixth: An Authentic Sports Bar in the City of Champions

By Olivia Miller

If there’s one thing Pittsburghers can’t get enough of, it’s their beloved sports teams. But when all the stadium tickets sell out, where can you go to watch the game?

RedBeard’s on Sixth is a haven for all Yinzer sports fans located just across the river from PNC Park and Acrisure Stadium. Aptly named for its founding owners, one of whom had a red beard, it has been owned by Len Semplice since 2006, with the downtown location going into its 10th year.

Semplice chose sixth street for RedBeard’s second location because he “always liked the energy on [the] block.” The restaurant is close to some of Pittsburgh’s top attractions, hotels, and businesses which provide a steady customer base of tourists, stadium goers, and business people alike.

One of the resturant's most unique aspects is that it is, what Semplice proudly considers to be, “a true sports bar.” Its authenticity lies not only in its great food, but also in its decor. After pulling the baseball bat shaped door handles and entering the restaurant, there is no question why. Sports artwork by local artist Dino Guarino lines the walls, the most striking of which is a large multi-sport inspired mural spanning the length of the first floor.

The restaurant is also equipped with large TVs broadcasting the latest games. However, Semplice stresses that this is where the most important distinction lies. Many sports bars claim the title simply because they have TVs broadcasting games. RedBeard’s takes it a step further by not playing music during games to allow customers to fully focus on the game.

To try one of the restaurant's signature cheese logs or partake in their 75 cent wing special on Tuesday nights, visit their downtown location at 144 6th street or call them at (412)- 261-2324. You can also find more information on their website.
