Alihan’s Coffee & Breakfast: Downtown’s New Lunch Hotspot
By Olivia Miller
If you work downtown, then you know that your lunch hour is the most valuable part of your day. It’s a time to close your laptop, stretch your legs and, most importantly, have a good meal. But with the city offering such a great variety of restaurants, where should you go to eat?
Alihan’s Coffee & Breakfast is a cozy, quaint restaurant located on 6th Street serving up breakfast and lunch dishes with a Turkish flair. The restaurant was opened by Martina and Alihan Hanoglu, who also own Alihan’s Mediterranean Cuisine, in September 2022. Since then, they have built, according to Martina, the perfect atmosphere to “sit down, drink coffee, and read a book.”
Their savory Turkey crepe is another signature dish at Alihan’s Coffee and Breakfast. This light crepe is stuffed with peas, carrots, green beans, and sliced turkey ham and smothered in bechamel sauce. Hanoglu describes it as her “favorite dish for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner- any time of the day.”
If you would rather forgo a meal and just relax with a cup of coffee, they’ve got you covered too. They carry a wide variety of coffees which they proudly say are better than the selection at Starbucks. They serve high quality blends from Nicholas Coffee as well as a house coffee blend and Turkish coffee, which Hanoglu says is a “sit down experience.” They also have great homemade cookies and pastries to go with your beverage, including pogaca, which is a fluffy, doughy bun that will make you “forget about bagels.”
Alihan’s Coffee & Breakfast is now open from 6am - 3pm seven days a week. To order delivery or takeout, you can call (412) 742-4053 or visit their website alihansbreakfast.com.
