Find Your Fragrance at PGH Candle

By Layla Joseph

The North Side is home to a local candle company specializing in natural and non-toxic candles that burn for hours without burning a hole in your pocket.

The hands pouring the wax at PGH Candle are Kayla Heffeman and her team, who create the candles made with 100% soy wax, a cotton wick and scents that anyone could love.

Heffeman is not a Pittsburgh native but fell in love with the city when she came for college and never looked back.

She said that creating candles started when she wanted a candle that burned clean, lasted long, smelled good and didn’t give you a headache.

The store contains a wide variety of unique scents, with over 35 fragrances across various collections created in-store or at the studio in Troy Hill.

Out of the distinctive collections at PGH Candle, Heffeman said her favorite is the original collection.

She said a 12-ounce candle from the original collection retails for $20 and will burn for about 60 hours, while the larger 20-ounce candles retail $32 and will burn for about 100 hours.

"Our original line is this plain white and black labeling with a textured paper to pull a luxury modern feel," she said. "That's our bread and butter. The collection consists of 19 scents and are very clean, modern-looking candles."

“There's a lot of versatility in that collection because you have everything from foodie and woody scents to exotic and seasonal scents,” she continued.

The fall scents for the original collection just dropped, including two returning seasonal smells and two new scents hitting the shelves just in time for the spooky season. The Sweet Tobacco and Tonka Bean and Cardamom Latte are now available in-store and online.

As the summer comes to a close and the air gets crisp, cuddle up with signature scents from PGH Candle's collaboration with Iron City Beer to bring autumn-inspired scents into your favorite room. The partnership brings three different fragrances for fall: Turner's Ic'd Tea, Blockhouse Pumpkin and Iron City Fall.

With other goodies sold in-store, like Pittsburgh merchandise, candle accessories, soaps and greeting cards, Heffeman said it is a one-stop-shop for any gift-giving occasion.

The brick-and-mortar shop is open Wednesday through Sunday, located between the Teutonia Mannerchor German Club and the Courtyard Hotel, with free parking.

If you want to avoid traveling across the bridge, You can find PGH Candles Downtown at love, Pittsburgh and catch them at the Market Square Night Market.
