By Layla Joseph

Get a taste of Pittsburgh cuisine with a side of history when indulging in the ‘Burgh Bits and Bites Food Tour.

With multiple tours offered in a variety of the city’s diverse neighborhoods, engulf your senses in flavor and the upbeat atmosphere that the ‘Burgh has to offer.

‘Burgh Bits and Bites Food Tour Founder Sylvia McCoy knows the ins and outs of the City of Bridges, but her knowledge has also extended overseas after going on a lengthy, eye opening trip to Europe, according to the website.

As a former Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation tour guide, McCoy incorporated her love of food, history and Pittsburgh by creating ‘Burgh Bits and Bites walking tours as a way to showcase Pittsburgh’s restaurants and culture.

The tours are offered across the Steel City in the Strip District, Lawrenceville, South Side and Brookline. Two Butler County tours are also hosted for those who want to venture outside the city streets.

‘Burgh Bits and Bites Food Tours are offered at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m. on Mondays and Fridays in the Strip, rain or shine. Tickets are available online, where you can select the date, location and time that works best.

For $55 per person after tax, enjoy a two-hour tour and experience five to seven different restaurants, allowing consumers to find their new favorite restaurant in the area.

The price of the ticket also includes a souvenir tote bag with the ‘Burgh Bits and Bites logo for any leftovers tourists would like to take home.

‘Burgh Bits and Bites provides a bottle of water to cleanse your palate between tastings, but tourists are welcome to bring their own water to stay hydrated during the tour.

Walk through Pittsburgh’s Strip District and savor the flavor of meals from cultures across the globe offered by restaurants along Penn Avenue when learning historical facts from one of the many experienced and personable tour guides.

For those who frequent the Strip often, take a bite out of the South Side and learn about the vibrant atmosphere and history of Main Street.

South Side tours are limited, but spots are still available on one Friday in September and October. Visit the historic district, grab some local bites and learn something new along the way.
