Taste Delicacies From Argentina & China at Best Restaurants

By Olivia Miller

DNA’s Best Restaurant event, which will take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center allows you to taste dishes from far away nations without leaving Pittsburgh. So leave your passport at home, secure your ticket here and prepare to be taken on a culinary journey unlike any other. The event will showcase the gastronomy from countries like Argentina from Gaucho Parrilla Argentina and China from Chengdu Gourmet.

Gaucho Parrilla Argentina

Gaucho, one of Sixth Street’s staple eateries, has been offering its authentic Argentinian cuisine to those in the Downtown ecosystem since 2020.

Calling the establishment a carnivore’s paradise does not do it justice. Their menu is quite literally beefed up and features various cuts of beef, steak, pork, chicken, lamb and fish all seasoned and charred to flavorful perfection and served alongside accompaniments like seasoned rice, salad, and crispy toast. They also offer a selection of fresh chimmi-churis that enhance the smoky, grilled flavor of their meats.

Gaucho also serves up a variety of small plates that are a great way to wet your palate before your meal, or even as the meal itself. To give just one example, their empanadas are served piping hot and are filled with a delicious beef, vegetable or ham and cheese mixture.

Chengdu Gourmet

Once you’ve had your fill of Argentinian cuisine, you can quickly jetset across the Pacific Ocean to China and taste the flavors of Chengdu through the offerings of Chengdu Gourmet.

Hailed as one of the area’s most authentic Chinese restaurants, the establishment was opened by James Beard Award nominated chef Wei Zhu. Chengdu Gourmet has since expanded to include two restaurants in the North Hills and Squirrel Hill and a menu of over 300 items including sushi, dim sum, traditional and americanized Chinese dishes and a selection of wine and boba to wash it all down with.

Their chongqing style chicken, which has captured the hearts (and stomachs) of Pittsburgh Steelers, and their ci ba fried rice cake dessert have earned Chengdu Gourmet awards like Pittsburgh Magazine’s Best Restaurants and the Pittsburgh Post Gazette’s Best Restaurants of 2022.

If the mere thought of perfectly charred steak sandwiches or flavorful leek box dumplings make your stomach rumble and your mouth water, make sure to secure your tickets to Best Restaurants, where you can sample all of this and more.
